2013 was the 125th Anniversary of Haslemere Educational Museum, making it only 5 years younger than the Natural History Museum. The year saw many exciting celebratory events including a visit from the Countess of Wessex.
At the beginning of the year this amazing 'comment -tree' was created by children attending one of our events. Over the year visitors have posted comments on leaf-shaped post-it notes. It has been both interesting and humbling to read all the comments
'Been coming here for 38years, still as good as ever! Happy birthday!' 'Happy 125th Anniversary I love the activities' 'One of my favourite places'
The photo shows Gabe And Eliza, two regulars at Museum activities, who helped create the tree.
For 2014 the children's activities are being rebranded as 'Museum Explorers', activities for 5 - 11 year old that take place at the beginning of each month (usually the 1st Saturday of the month) and during school holidays.
Museum Explorers will be able to collect stamps and once they have three will receive a voucher worth £1 when spending £5 in the Museum shop. Ten stamps will entitle the visitor to an entry in a raffle for a Junior membership.
The 1st Museum Explorer session will be on January 11th and will include trialling a new trail and visiting places not often open to the public. As one of the first Museums in the country to actively encourage children and winner of the 2012 Family Friendly Museum Award we hope that 'Museum Explorers' will continue this tradition of welcoming children to, and encouraging them to enjoy, the Museum.
